Dear TD Gaming,

I listen to a few different podcasts, all of which I enjoy for different reasons, and I wanted to let you know that I thoroughly love the "Bit of History" and "This Week In Gaming" sections featured in your show. Even though I'm right in the middle of the target age demographic for videogame sales, I've never been all that interested in newer games/systems, so these sections of your show take me way back. I've actually listened to your entire back catalog of your shows while I've been working over the past 2 weeks, so I hear your voices more during the day than my wife's.

On any given day I have a million comments to add to your show, but if I had to pick one topic/question right off the top, I would just like your take on the status of company mascots. It seems like my entire childhood video game memories lay alongside the mascots from their respective companies. When you heard the name SEGA, you immediately thought SONIC. When I told people I owned 60 games for my Turbo Grafx 16, they had no idea what I was talking about, but they had a vague recollection of Bonk the caveman. Of course, Nintendo had Mario, Master System had Wonder Boy, Sony PS1 had Crash Bandicoot. Gameboy had......Tetris?

Do you think that brand loyalties have waned since the decline of company mascots? People nowadays stray from system to system to taste a little bit of everything from each company, whether its an exclusive game, or a new control scheme, or a Blu-Ray/HD capability. I never enjoyed Sonic as a kid, so I didn't buy a Genesis until years later. But I loved Mario and Bonk and was a huge fan of both the NES and TG-16, and still am to this day. The fact that all the hyped games from SEGA back then featured Sonic really deterred my interest and that influenced what I or my parents purchased. So once again, do you think that brand loyalties have waned since the decline of company mascots, or have the system features (controls, video capabilities, online content, etc) become the mascots themselves?

Sorry for the longwinded comment/question.

Box Elder, SD

p.s. LJN would be an excellent company to cover in "A Bit of History" because of its vast array of absolutely horrible games and movie games. X-men, Nightmare on Elm Street, Back to the Future, Jaws, Friday the 13th. Yikes. The list goes on.
