Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat create, says the next release of Mortal Kombat will be a re-design from the ground up. This re-design will be more like the original Mortal Kombat series hits instead of the latest releases.

Going back to basics, this release wil be "a lot grittier, dirtier" reflecting more of the first-generation game. Perhaps, Boon is realizing that gamers aren't all into 3D graphics and overuse of technology.

Sure, Boon said the graphics will be more realistic than ever but perhaps games like Super Paper Mario have made some gamers realize older style games do indeed sell.

It is also true that when your series isn't doing as well as the original hits, it's time to go back and figure out why.

Boon says we should expect many new characters in graphic detail with a few new "next generation" features, maybe utilizing the SixAxis tilt-controller on the PlayStation 3.

Hopefully, they can revive the genre of fighting games by providing the industry with a new release that is better than all those before it but reflects that of the traditional MK style.

In the end, we will have to wait and see. That means waiting until late 2008 before we get our hands on this title.
